There are nine big cats, the Tiger, Lion, Jaguar, Leopard, Cheetah, Puma, Snow Leopard, Clouded
Leopard and the Onza. The first four felines in the list above are bigger than last five. Big cats
are carnivores, which simply means they eat meat. Big cats are threatened by
habitat destruction and illegal hunting, and are even hunted and shot
for sport by trophy hunters. Big cats are also threatened by illegal exotic 'pet' trade. Even today, an estimated 15,000 big cats are kept in domestic captivity
in the USA alone.
